And they’re good at it, according to NYPD

The NYPD is warning Lower East Side and Nolita restaurant and bar owners of a team of “well dressed” men who have been on a pickpocketing spree. In an email on Tuesday to nearby bars and restaurants, Crime Prevention Officer Rodney Rosado writes that the three men have been targeting customers:

They wait until roughly [the] 12:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. time period (your most crowded time periods) and watch, pick, and distract. Three man team very good at what they do. Please have all employees on the lookout.

Five State Store Wine Picks from a.kitchen + bar’s Sommelier Mariel Wega

Source: Eater Philly

The official Eater guide to wine-buying in Philadelphia

With the exception of a few premium collection flagships, venturing into a state-run Fine Wine and Good Spirits store is a daunting endeavor. The decor scheme brings to mind neon-lit K-Mart on its last legs, employees oftentimes don’t know their syrah from Ciroc and the wine selection would surely get a failing grade from Robert Parker. In a town that’s known for its award-winning BYOs, the state of wine in Philadelphia is a conundrum.

In order to find the best bottles that the state store has to offer, we’re tapping some of ...

Since Philadelphia-based Michael Solomonov opened his hummus concept, Dizengoff, in Chelsea Market earlier this year, it’s not crazy to hope that New York will one day get an outpost of Solomonov’s Federal Donuts, too. But for now, New Yorkers will have to settle for a pop-up …

Remember this restaurant?: Mumbo Jumbo in downtown Atlanta

Mumbo Jumbo Bar and Grill / AJC file photo

Before Shaun Doty started the popular local chains Bantam + Biddy and YEAH! Burger (which he’s since sold his shares in), he was the executive chef at Mumbo Jumbo, a celebrated downtown hot spot that opened in time for the 1996 Olympics. The restaurant closed in 2003 so Doty could focus on a new restaurant in Midtown, but until then it was known as one of the best places to be seen and to grab a tasty bite and a mouthwatering cocktail.

The “modern eclectic” menu included dishes such as oxtail ravioli with a morel cream, Sardinian flatbread with bottarga and sauteed oysters with curry sauce and basil. When the restaurant first opened, an AJC story referred to the ambience as “Barcelona after dark – bold art over the bar, pentimento frescos on exposed brick walls, Gaudi-like broken tile applique on columns, Euro-lounge recorded music, kitchen right up front looking at the street.”

Burger King’s first St. Petersburg location is turning six this year. To celebrate, the chain has unveiled some limited-edition burgers — a completely standard, if often forgettable, tactic. The problem is the theme BK chose for this festive occasion is just downright weird: It’s a series of four …

Sometime earlier this summer we started coming up with a list of restaurants and bars that could be described in Emoji form. Some are obvious, others, might take a few moments to figure out. Most are plays on the name of the restaurant while a few others, like the above, go a bit deeper.

Post your best guesses in the comments, the first person to come up with all the correct answers will receive a selection of books from Foobooz World Headquarters.
