When Alisa Barry closed her popular Bella Cucina Virginia-Highland retail store in 2013, it wasn’t the end of her business, although it might have seemed that way if you only knew the Italian lifestyle brand through its brick-and-mortar location. Barry, who has been in business for 24 years, continued to operate her wholesale line of Bella Cucina products—which are sold at Whole Foods, Crate and Barrel, and boutique stores through the country and Canada—out of a space in East Point. Wholesale is 97 percent of her business. “If you’ve been around the block, ...

The Christiane Chronicles: Food halls are a loss for urbanism

Source: Atlanta Magazine

Rant No Street Cred My idea of a city involves attractive streets jam-packed with restaurants. Atlanta’s gorgeous residential neighborhoods and awful clumps of commercial development clash in a way that disturbs me. The trend of concentrating restaurants in places such as Krog Street Market, Ponce City Market, Inman Quarter, Buckhead Atlanta, and Emory Point may be helpful in a city just beginning to embrace pedestrian arteries. But these food halls and mini-malls turn their backs to our streets, hoarding their treasures inside. I understand how great it is to have so many choices under one roof—and the element of surprise ...

Shrimp and Grits at Southern Gentleman in Buckhead Atlanta. (BECKY STEIN PHOTOGRAPHY.COM)

Good evening. Rhett Butler here.

It has come to my attention that the good city of Atlanta has within our perimeter a restaurant named after me. Well, no, it isn’t my name exactly, but it is called the Southern Gentleman, and if I’m not the man that name brings to your mind, my dear, I don’t give a damn.

I must warn you, the news is not good.

But let us not speak of worst things first. This is a finely appointed room, located ...

American Food and Beverage in Buckhead Atlanta

Source: Atlanta Restaurant Blog

The second restaurant I’ve visited in the new Buckhead Atlanta center, American Food and Beverage, was even more lovely than the first, Thirteen Pies, both owned by the same company. AFB is pretty expansive, not to mention well appointed. Just look at that beautiful bar that spans the length of the restaurant.

AFB’s cocktail list is a motely crew of booze, including Gin, Vodka, Tequila and Whiskey. Our group pretty much picked one of each, my choice being the Buckhead Gimlet. A twist on a normal Gimlet, you choose between Vodka, Gin and Tequila. I went with Vodka, my ...

Corso Coffee: Exclusive Italian Espresso in Buckhead Atlanta

Corso

New York City’s Corso Coffee has found an outpost in Atlanta. The upscale coffee bar opened in Buckhead Atlanta in late December, and it’s white-tiled, clean lined display matches the high-gloss tone of the neighborhood. But besides having a fancy interior, Corso’s espresso beans, Aneri Tricaffe, are rare. LDV (Le Dolce Vida) Imports, the company behind Corso, is the exclusive importer and partner of Aneri Tricaffe for the U.S., Canada and all of Latin and South America.

Aneri Tricaffe’s story began in Italy in 1993, where the Aneri family began managing a local Italian coffee roaster that had been established ...
