Get a sneak peek of Avalon Restaurant Week

The Big Braut Burger is one of the offerings at Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar during Avalon Restaurant Week (Oct. 14-21), which features special prix fixe menus from several restaurants.

In the days ahead, food lovers can sample a plethora of discounted fare in Alpharetta.

Avalon Restaurant Week kicks off this Saturday and runs through Oct. 21. Ten Avalon eateries will be offering prix fixe menus at $15, $25 or $35 for lunch and dinner.

Modern Japanese concept O-Ku Atlanta is opening doors for dinner today, Dec. 17.

The upscale restaurant, located in Midtown’s Westside Ironworks building at 1085 Howell Mill Road, is the latest addition from restaurateur Steve Palmer’s Indigo Road Restaurant Group, which recently expanded to Georgia with the opening of Colletta and a second location for Oak Steakhouse. Both are located in mixed-use development Avalon in Alpharetta. (Three more restaurants will open in Avalon by spring 2016.)

Chatting with Colletta’s Executive Chef, Michael Perez

One of Avalon’s latest concepts is Colletta, the modern Italian restaurant by Indigo Restaurant Group (who also owns neighboring restaurant Oak Steakhouse.) At the helm of the kitchen is Executive Chef Michael Perez, who leads an under-30 kitchen to create modern twists on classic Italian staples. Perez has travelled the country, working in high-end kitchens in Portland, Los Angeles, Hawaii and Charleston. Now he’s settled into Atlanta, and he’s found the similarities with his hometown of Portland. Here we chat with Perez about his love for the South, living in Avalon and spending $700 on a meal in Italy.
