Nitro Cold-Brew Coffee Is Suddenly Everywhere

Source: Washingtonian Food

Guinness beer may be the most famous nitrogenated beverage, but the coffee community is quickly catching on. The “nitro” cold-brew method—coffee grounds are steeped in cold water, then the extra-strong result is infused with nitrogen gas—lends your morning joe a creamier, richer feel with micro-bubbles and a foamy head. In the past year or two, nearly every serious coffee shop in town—including Dolcezza (multiple area locations), Zeke’s (2300 Rhode Island Ave., NE), and Compass Coffee (1535 Seventh St., NW)—has begun pouring the stuff on draft. You can also get it canned thanks to the local “craft coffee brewery” Confluence ...

Downtown Nightclub Opens Political Satire-Themed Coffee Shop

By night, Capitale is a destination for bottle service and DJ parties. By day, it’s now a place where you can watch Colbert Report reruns, play Washington-themed board games, and sip on coffee drinks named things like “Rubio’s Razzamatazz” and “Trump’s Tirmisu latte.”

Roasted, as the new Franklin Square spot is called, comes from Capitale co-owner David Yung and Pierre Jimenez, who owns two commuter cafes in Virginia called Coffee Club. The two have been friends since college and recently started talking about bringing their businesses together. Jimenez had been to the nightclub when it used to be called K Street Lounge ...

Still, there are perks to these bogus holidays: Like freebies! Several major chains are giving away free java today. (Expect lines, out the door lines, which we’ve […]

The Coffee Quarter

Source: Washington City Paper Young & Hungry

If Starbucks has proved anything, it’s that there’s no such thing as too many coffee shops too close together. But dense real estate planning isn’t just for corporate coffee anymore: Now places serving pour-overs, coffee flights, and rare beans are popping up near each other, too. A good portion of the city’s most ambitious coffee programs (yes, “programs”) are now clustered within a relatively small stretch of the city between 14th Street NW and Shaw. Consult this map for the ultimate cup in D.C.’s Coffee Quarter.
