It’s pie time: O4W Pizza owner returning to Atlanta with new restaurant

O4W Pizza’s Grandma Pie / Photo courtesy of Blue Hominy

If you’ve been mourning the loss of an intown spot to get O4W Pizza’s Grandma Pie, it’s time to wipe your tears.

Owner Anthony Spina, who closed O4W’s Irwin Street Market spot across from Krog Street Market in mid-2016 in favor of a new location in Duluth, will return to Atlanta next year with a new restaurant.

Spina is partnering with Billy Streck, owner of intown eateries Cypress Street Pint + Plate and Hampton + Hudson, to open an as-yet unnamed spot in mixed-use development Studioplex at 659 Auburn Ave. NE in mid-2018. The restaurant will be just a few blocks from O4W’s previous intown location.

The new joint will serve top-selling pies from O4W Pizza — including the popular Grandma Pie, a rectangular thin-crust pizza — and other Italian snacks, sandwiches, salads, and pasta, including vegan and gluten-free options, alongside a beverage program with a full bar.

The forthcoming restaurant’s design is a collaboration among Streck and his wife Jenn, Spina, and local Atlanta firm Smith Hanes Studio. It will face the Beltline’s Eastside trail and feature a bar, banquette seating, and an open kitchen.

Growing up in Red Bank, Anthony Spina learned to make Jersey-style pizza side-by-side with his uncle. He cooked in his home state for two decades before moving to Atlanta and opening O4W Pizza in January 2015. New York native Streck grew up hanging out in his grandfather’s and dad’s pizzeria.

The restaurant will join several other recently-announced food concepts at Studioplex, including Hawkers Asian Street Fare and Beetnix Juice Bar.

Soft pretzels and beer cheese dip hit the spot at Hobnob

Soft pretzels and cheese dip at Hobnob / Photo by Henri Hollis

By Henri Hollis

Piping hot, slick with oil and sprinkled with sea salt: Almost any food is good when it meets these criteria. Even pretzels. Make those soft pretzels, then pair them with tangy, gooey beer cheese dip, and even the most entrenched pretzel-hater like me might be tempted to dance a little polka.

Hobnob, the Midtown tavern open since 2010 (a Brookhaven location opened this year), has certainly evolved over the years, but the restaurant knows better than to take its soft pretzels off the ...
