NYC Best Weekend Bets (9.7.2017-9.10.2017)

Source: Brightest Young Things NYC

Welcome back to another weekend, you guys! And it’s not just ANY weekend, either; it’s the US OPEN FINALS! I went to the quarter-finals yesterday and it was pretty much the best day of my life, so if you have the means to grab a ticket and go to either the semi-finals or the actual finals, you should PROBABLY DO IT! It’s also #NYFW, meaning this week’s GIF theme is (as with all NYFWs) Anna Wintour. SORRY NOT SORRY. If you’re going “But Megan, I hate tennis! I hate fashion!” then CALM DOWN because there are plenty of things to ...

NYC Best Weekend Bets (8.24.2017-8.27.2017)

Source: Brightest Young Things NYC

Welcome to another promising weekend, you guys! I am babysitting a cat named Unicorn who is getting her fur on all of my clothes, but I still love her! Anything is possible! Also, Dogtooth is screening this weekend, and (I will repeat it later) is one of my favorite movies ever, and I would do anything to marry Yorgos Lanthimos but he is already married to Ariane Labed, and she is v. beautiful and v. accomplished. ALAS. Anyway, it’s our GIF theme for the weekend // DEAL WITH IT! Before we get into the details of that and ALL your ...

Real Cheese Vs. Fake Cheese Taste Test

Source: Brightest Young Things NYC

You probably already know the results of this taste test before you read it.

Real cheese and fake cheese are not the same thing. In fact, one is cheese and the other is not cheese. The not cheese doesn’t really taste like cheese. But we wanted to figure out if the perception is reality. Marissa is a vegan so she only ate the not real cheeses. Forcing lactose on anyone is cruel.

How To Make a Balti-S’more, Hon!

Source: Brightest Young Things NYC

Today is National S’mores Day, which, apart from the 4th of July, is just about the most American holiday of all time. But when you think about it, S’mores are not actually very reflective of the modern American love affair with diabetes…I mean, graham crackers? That’s what you give your kids if you want to trick them into eating a food that’s healthier than cookies. To be fair, the treat was invented in the 1920s, but it’s 2016 now! Where are the trans fats? Where is the slow-death joy?

Fortunately for the entire universe, I happen to be in good ...

NYC Best Weekend Bets (8.10.2017-8.13.2017)

Source: Brightest Young Things NYC

Do you ever wake up after a night out and just keep whispering, “Wait, WHAT???” Just me? Okay cool, great! For a quick recap, last night I went on a ghost hunt in Greenpoint and told multiple people (including a camera crew) about my quantum physics-based spirit realm theories and also gave my phone number to a bartender who definitely did not want my phone number! (Don’t you wish you were friends with me?!)

“How can I get on that same level, Megan?” Well, it helps if you just eat a can of garbanzo beans the whole day and then proceed ...

Good morning! It’s practically the weekend! We can all breathe a sigh of relief, and also sigh heavily because this hamster wheel of life amirite?! SORRY, sorry, I drank red wine for the first time in a long time last night, which usually gives me nightmares as a weird side effect, but instead this time I just came home from the party and decided to start re-reading The Decline of the West by Oswald Spengler and currently have not had coffee, which equals GLASS HALF EMPTY WORLDVIEW DOT COM. (Don’t worry, I can hear the moka pot making noises as ...

Cooking with Chef Haidar

Source: Brightest Young Things NYC

Words By Allison Desy, Photos By Nicholas Karlin

What is the best part of summer in D.C.? Perhaps it’s sweating in places you never even thought could sweat during 90 degree scorchers. Perhaps it’s the unbelievably packed public transit at all hours of the day. For Chef Haidar Karoum, it’s the highly accessible fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers markets.

Chef Haidar let the BYT team tag along with him on his trip to the Ronald Reagan Farmers Market where he picked out asparagus, sugar snap peas, and red and green spring onions for a vegetable and ricotta dumpling ...
