On Saturday afternoon, Max Lager’s in downtown Atlanta, the oldest brewpub in Georgia, hosts its second annual Old 320 Beer Fest.

Billed as “celebrating the independent and innovative culture of craft brewing,” the event features more than 30 craft breweries from Georgia and around the country. Midtown’s swanky steakhouse, STK Atlanta, is adding one more festive thing to Thursdays: oyster happy hour. Guests can enjoy handpicked selections by executive chef Andrea Montobbio including $1.50 oysters and clams, $3 shrimp, $4 ceviche snow crab claws. The special drink menu features $5 craft beer, $6 wine and $7 cocktails. Because this is STK Atlanta, a local DJ will be in the building spinning party and popular tunes.

Bacchanalia has a new exec chef

More change is underway at Bacchanalia. Recently relocated from Westside Provisions District to Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard in West Midtown, the fine dining establishment now has a new executive chef. Jonathan Kallini has been promoted to the top position from his previous role there as chef de cuisine.

Kallini replaces Joe Schafer, who has accepted a position as executive chef for the Atlanta Hawks. Tuesday was Schafer’s last day.

Anne Quatrano, who operates Bacchanalia with her husband Clifford Harrison, shared the news Wednesday via Instagram:

4 Rivers Smokehouse is opening tomorrow. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on July 25 at 9 a.m. to celebrate the new location for the barbecue chain. AJC announced last fall that 4 Rivers would be opening its first Georgia location bringing some of the southeast’s best barbecue to Atlanta.

Bob Townsend’s Beer Pick: Second Self Red Hop Rye

As part the James Beard Foundation’s Blended Burger Project, a local restaurant and brewery recently teamed up to spread the word on culinary sustainability.

Executive chef Deborah VanTrece of Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours reached out to Second Self Brewing Co. owner Jason Santamaria, who’s also a chef, to collaborate on an Atlanta-based pairing.

The result is VanTrece’s the Burger Wellington, which features beef brisket blended with locally sourced oyster mushrooms, mushroom duxelle and a puff pastry wrap, served with Second Self Red Hop Rye.
