Here’s What You’ll Be Drinking This Summer at Hop Sing’s Happy Hour

Source: Philadelphia Magazine » Foobooz

So I was talking with Le the other day, and he told me that, like last summer, he was going to be releasing a new list of happy hour shots.

But this being Le (and his bar, Hop Sing Laundromat, being Hop Sing Laundromat), this wasn’t going to be any collection of lemon drops and Irish car bombs. No, he uses his happy hour lists like maps to discount adventure — incredible deals on simple pours from some of the best and most interesting bottles he keeps behind the bar. We’re talking a 12-year-old Redbreast for $7.77. A ...

New Chef, New Menus And A New Focus At Cinder

Source: Philadelphia Magazine » Foobooz

Cinder was not my favorite restaurant when I reviewed it back in February. It eked out two stars (mostly on the strength of its bar and a couple of the snacks being put out by the kitchen), but never really seemed like a place that knew precisely what it wanted to be.

But now that, apparently, has changed.

In the same week that my review of Cinder posted, its opening chef, Jonathan Petruce, let me know that he was leaving for a new gig with Michael Schulson. This left the kitchen without a chef and with even ...

New Happy Hour Menus at Suga

Source: Philadelphia Magazine » Foobooz

I did not love Suga when I reviewed it last year. It was confusing, inconsistent, and it didn’t seem to know exactly what kind of restaurant it wanted to be.

But you know what? I’ve never stopped thinking about the place. While a lot of restaurants I go to pass immediately into my rearview the minute I’m done reviewing them (because it’s always time to move onto the next and the next and the next), Suga did not. I was weirdly fascinated by the dishes (grilled asparagus with broccoli mousse, Shanxi pasta with lamb ...

“Newember” Happy Hour Deals Continue At The Trestle Inn

Source: Philadelphia Magazine » Foobooz

The Trestle Inn has long been a go-to whiskey bar for the Foobooz World HQ staff and accomplices. Last month, they made drinking here an even more attractive proposition with an oversized regular happy hour, an additional late-night happy hour, plus some nice specials for those making the trek out to Callowhill.

The good news? What was originally a November promotion (called, weirdly, “Newember”) has now been extended into December (probably because the name still technically applies) and beyond. We’ve got all the details below, including on their coffee cocktail–not a hot drink, but still one that comes caffeinated, which ...

New Dim Sum Brunch And Happy Hours At SuGa

Lou Bird’s–the new restaurant in the old Meritage space, opened by Norris and Debbie Jordan of the Happy Rooster–has been getting some solid, early love from Philadelphia. Which isn’t really all that surprising since it has Natalie Maronski (ex of Volver) in the kitchen and Josh Jenkins (former manager at Dandelion) working the floor.

But now, they’re trying to make their little neighborhood bistro even more neighborhood-y by adding a happy hour.
