Chef change at Bluetop

Just weeks after unlocking doors, Bluetop is seeing a change in the kitchen. Executive chef Matt Marcus is no longer working at the restaurant located at 5362 Peachtree Road in Chamblee.

Owner Andy Lasky stated that he terminated Marcus yesterday due to “areas of conflict.”

“I like him a lot as a person,” Lasky said. “Professionally, it just wasn’t working out.”

UPDATED: Hurricane Irma: Which Atlanta restaurants are open or closed?

On Monday, Hurricane Irma will hit Atlanta, and could bring between five and seven inches of rainfall, and high winds reaching more than 60 mph to the metro region, according to forecasters at Channel 2 Action News.

Governor Nathan Deal has issued a state of emergency Sunday for all of Georgia’s 159 counties, and metro Atlanta school systems have cancelled classes and postponed events ahead of the massive storm.

While some restaurants are normally closed Mondays, tomorrow’s storm means the closure of restaurants that would otherwise be open.

After six years running the kitchen at Bocado, Adam Waller has given his notice. Waller is leaving the popular west Midtown burger spot to help the team behind The Pinewood and The Mercury launch two Italian concepts, Bar Americano and Bar Crema, in Buckhead.

Today, officials from Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in partnership with the venue’s food service provider Levy Restaurants, unveiled some specialty items that will be available to fans when the stadium opens to the public Aug. 26.

Menu items range from a brat burger ($10) to burnt end nachos ($10) to two tacos with your choice of barbacoa beef or ancho chicken ($7).

Chef Joe Schafer discusses move from Bacchanalia to Philips Arena

A year and a half after taking charge of culinary operations at Bacchanalia, Joe Schafer has left the restaurant. He has accepted a position as executive chef at Philips Arena, home to the Atlanta Hawks.

More change is underway at Bacchanalia. Recently relocated from Westside Provisions District to Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard in West Midtown, the fine dining establishment now has a new executive chef. Jonathan Kallini has been promoted to the top position from his previous role there as chef de cuisine.

Kallini replaces Joe Schafer, who has accepted a position as executive chef for the Atlanta Hawks. Tuesday was Schafer’s last day.

Anne Quatrano, who operates Bacchanalia with her husband Clifford Harrison, shared the news Wednesday via Instagram:

Le Caveau, a wine shop in Chamblee, will be closing at month’s end.

The store, located at 5256 Peachtree Road, is currently selling its remaining inventory at a discount. Wines are 20 percent off, accessories are also marked down and fixtures are also for sale. Georgia’s culinary community is mourning the sudden loss of an employee who worked at The Grey, a fine dining restaurant in Savannah.

Scott Waldrup, general manager of The Grey, was fatally struck by a car in downtown Savannah yesterday. According to WTGS Fox28 Savannah, Waldrup was identified as the pedestrian struck and killed by an SUV after Fourth of July festivities on the city’s River Street.
