Source: Philadelphia Magazine » Foobooz

Wanna crush some ‘za but don’t feel like going outside? You’ve got several options for delivery, from schmancy chef-driven pizza through Caviar to your neighborhood pizza joint. With luck, you’ll be eating an ok-to-pretty-good (depending on your location and desired price point), still-hot pizza within an hour.

But where’s the fun in that?

Instead, you could let West Philly-based theater artist and performer Donna Oblongata bring you a pizza…sometime. Somewhere, at a location you’re likely to be (a little social media sleuthing might be involved). And there’s no telling what she’ll put on it.

That’s the ...

After cars hit the building twice, Ammazza won’t reopen until next year

Source: Atlanta Magazine

This is what Ammazza looked like after a car crashed into the building in June. A second car hit it in July.Photograph courtesy of Hugh Connerty When the hood of a car plowed through the front wall of Ammazza in June, no one could have predicted that another car would crash into almost the exact same spot of the building nearly a month later. The popular Neapolitan pizzeria sits at the intersection of Randolph Street and Edgewood Avenue, a site that has earned two “no turn on red” signs and a whole lot of recent attention. On the morning ...

Roman-Style Pizza Has Arrived in Rittenhouse

Source: Philadelphia Magazine » Foobooz

Rione/Facebook

Rione — the pizza al taglio shop Foobooz told you all about back in the beginning of April — finally opened over Memorial Day weekend making 102 South 21st Street the hot, new headquarters for all things al taglio here in Philly.

Al taglio, or “by the cut”, is a purely Roman style of pizza. Instead of the leopard-spotted, blistery rounds of Napoli, Romans go for a more casual, quick-serve sort of pie — rectangular pans of airy dough topped with whatever the shopkeep’s feeling that day, sold by the tray or sliced (sometimes literally cut with scissors) to-order.

The Christiane Chronicles: Thin-crust pizza makers, you’re doing it wrong

Rant Vanishing of the Thin Crust Something is happening to pizza. Lately, all I can find are pies with flabby, uncooked centers and swollen crusts that have all the textural charm of cardboard. The pie dough at his eponymous pizzeria, Varasano’s, in south Buckhead, is uniformly cooked with just a bit of char on the edges, and its toppings, trapped in an enamel of cheese, stand their ground.
