O4W Pizza’s Anthony Spina is bringing the Grandma Pie back to Old Fourth Ward

Source: Atlanta Magazine

The Grandma Pie at O4W Pizza in DuluthPhotography by Jennifer Zyman Even though O4W Pizza closed its namesake Old Fourth Ward location more than a year ago, the sting from the pizzeria’s schlep to the suburbs never truly went away for ITP-ers. The Duluth location, which opened last September, is bigger and in many ways better than the original—owner Anthony Spina perfected his pizza-making and added pastas, appetizers, and salads to the menu. But the convenience of having the Grandma Pie in your backyard is hard to beat. Pine no longer—Spina is bringing his pizza back to Old Fourth Ward ...

Tacos and Pizza Had a Baby in South Philly — and It’s Delicious

Source: Philadelphia Magazine » Foobooz

You can order Mexican pizza pretty late at night in South Philly, which is useful since it’s greasy and salty and has a real gift for soaking up a Saturday night. It’s a South Philly delicacy, one that passes up culinary convention for something that hits its neighbors — all of its neighbors — closer to home. Because it’s not a tlayuda, those XL tortillas piled…

October is National Pizza Month, but the Pabst Brewing Company wants you to forget “contemporary, elevated pizza parlors” and artisan margherita pies. Instead, they’re looking back to those college days when you didn’t need anything more than a frozen pizza and a six-pack of PBR. Through the end of October, Pabst is hosting the “District of Pabst […]

Pity Sbarro. The Brooklyn-born chain has been operating for more than half a century, but its days as a food-court mainstay might be numbered. All across the country, even as the market becomes more saturated, restaurateurs and titans of industry are gunning to create the next fast-casual behemoth — and lately, …

O4W Pizza

Source: Atlanta Magazine

Detroit-style pizzaPhotograph by Caroline C. Kilgore Granted, O4W Pizza is not exactly new. Owner Anthony Spina, a New Jersey native, opened the original pizzeria in Irwin Street Market in January 2015. The Inman Park stall was short-lived (it closed in June 2016), but the concept was not. One month later Spina relaunched O4W in Duluth, a gutsy move considering his most loyal customers lived ITP. The larger space can accommodate proper table service and—important in calculating this list—an expanded menu, which now includes the best arancini in the metro area as well as chicken parm heroes and handmade cavatelli. And ...

Best of Philly Winner To Take Over Sarcone’s Deli Space

Sarcone’s Deli/Yelp

Haddonfield, New Jersey-based Angelo’s Pizzeria — named best classic pie in this year’s Best of Philly awards — is taking over the now-shuttered Sarcone’s Deli at 736 South Ninth Street.

When we spoke with Angelo’s owner Danny DiGiampietro — whose wife, Lauren, is a Sarcone — he said that he never would have expected to take over the spot “in a million years” before the closure was announced last week. He’ll be gutting the space to add grills, ovens, and other equipment, then reopening as a second Angelo’s Pizzeria sometime in the fall.

Since Angelo’s does more than cold hoagies — like hot sandwiches, fries, and those award-winning pizzas — most of the space will be taken up by the expanded kitchen. DiGiampietro expects to do mostly takeout business, with only one or two tables for dining in.

Of course, he plans to continue sourcing Sarcone’s rolls for hoagies.
