33 products were selected as finalists for the University of Georgia’s 2018 Flavor of Georgia Food Product Contest set for March 20 in Atlanta. The final round of judging will be held in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Agriculture Awareness Week celebration March 19-23.

A new coffee shop is coming to Grant Park

A Grant Park multi-use residential building is getting a new spot for coffee.

Blue Donkey Coffee, which both roasts and serves coffee, is set to open another location in The George at 275 Memorial Drive this year, What Now Atlanta first reported. The new location is also listed on the Blue Donkey’s website. The shop, which specializes in iced coffee and craft coffee products, is owned by Atlanta natives Ed and David Lane and William Rankin.

The shop’s roastery, which roasts single origin beans daily, is located in Fayetteville. The business also has locations on the campuses of Georgia Tech and Emory University, and sells coffee at the Piedmont Green Market and Peachtree City Farmer’s Market. Blue Donkey also has a seasonal shop at Piedmont Park that’s closed for the winter.

The James Beard Foundation has announced its list of semifinalists for 2018 awards, and metro Atlanta restaurants and chefs fared well, although there were several notable omissions.

The finalists will be announced March 14 in Philadelphia, and the winner will be announced May 7 in Chicago.

Mittie’s Cafe announced the closure at its location at 62 N. Main St. on its website and on Facebook:

Another post on the Mittie’s Facebook page said the restaurant could potentially open in a new space.  

The restaurant, known for its chicken salad, soups, salads, quiches and crepes, opened in Alpharetta in 2003. A Roswell location that opened nearly three decades ago has been closed for several years.

BoccaLupo has a way of sending out dishes that are classic but also fresh and innovative. Bruce Logue’s Garganelli with chicken and veal ragu – delicate fluted tubes of fresh-rolled pasta blanketed in a hearty ladle of meat gravy – is no exception.

The name for the garganelli pasta shape is derived from a northern Italian dialect meaning chicken gullet. The pasta’s quill-like form and perpendicular ridges are said to resemble the cartilaginous rings in a chicken’s trachea.

After announcing the closure of Smokebelly BBQ in late January and plans to open a Baja Mexican concept in its place, Southern Proper Hospitality has released details of its new restaurant.
