Erin O’Shea/RSC Facebook

After 12 years with CookNSolo, Erin O’Shea — opening chef at Percy Street BBQ and, more recently, Rooster Soup Company  —  has left Steve Cook and Mike Solomonov’s restaurant empire to “pursue other interests”, according to the group’s rep.

Co-founder Steve Cook on O’Shea’s departure:

“Mike and I worked with Erin for twelve years and we are very sad to see her go.  She’s done tremendous things for our company.  We’ve grown together, and through her talent, dedication and a ton of heart, she set us up for success and dreaming big at Rooster.  We will miss her but ...

Rooster Soup Company/Facebook

Rooster Soup Company, the buzzy-as-hell luncheonette-style restaurant that donates all net profits to Broad Street Ministry’s radical hospitality program, has garnered yet more praise from national food media: It’s one of Food & Wine’s 2017 Restaurants of the Year.

The mag praised the mission of Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook’s diner-inspired concept, which was listed amongst standout spots across the country like Stephen Starr’s Le Coucou in New York and San Francisco’s Tartine Manufactory.

But apparently it was the Yemeni chicken pot pie that Food & Wine really “[fell] in love with” — ...

Rooster Soup Company Makes Some Tweaks

Source: Philadelphia Magazine » Foobooz

Center City’s darling new give-back diner, Rooster Soup Company, caught some national attention last week after GQ named it one of the ten best new restaurants in the country. The author, Brett Martin, waxes creative about Rooster’s chicken schnitzel sandwich, its Yemenite chicken pot pie and its smoked-matzo-ball soup; he even goes so far as to mention its hours (“[o]pen from breakfast through early-bird dinner”).

Now, just four days after the list was published, Rooster Soup Co. tweaked its menu and hours, so its entire blurb is effectively dated material — a perfect example of the fidgety, ...

Here’s What You’ll Be Eating When Rooster Soup Company Opens Next Week

We patiently await its arrival

So here’s the deal. We’ve been waiting on good news from Rooster Soup Company for a LONG time. The first serious mention of it on Foobooz came all the way back in June of 2014 when we announced the launch of the Kickstarter that was used to fund the start-up of Rooster (and which ultimately raised over $150,000). And we’ve been keeping an eye on things ever since.

But now things are finally getting real. Rooster Soup has an opening date, a mission plan and, most important (to us, anyway), a menu.

So here’s what ...

Michael Solomonov in Esquire

solomonov cropped esquire 400Michael Solomonov has certainly been in the news lately. From his story of battling addiction in the New York Times to the buzz created by Rooster Soup Company and opening two new restaurants, the chef has been keeping a high profile.

And now he’s featured by Esquire in a feature of 22 men who are redefining style across America. Solomonov is shown wearing a Giorgio Armani wool suit at the Reading Terminal. We’re much more used to seeing Solomonov in chef whites or board shorts but have to admit, he cleans up nicely.

Pastramen-rooster-soup-940

Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook have just teased three menu items for Rooster Soup Co., the hopeful product of Federal Donuts and Broad Street Ministry’s kickstarter, and we’re salivating.

First on the list is the ever so beautiful and unlikely combination of a pastrami sandwich and ramen noodle bowl: The Pastramen made from double chicken stock spiked with soy, pastrami-cured short rib, sauerkraut and rye noodle.  Next up is the classic with a twist: Chicken Noodle Pho with double chicken stock, homemade matzoh balls, rice noodles, celery, dill and chicken oysters. And finally, for the vegan and vegetarians, Rooster Soup Co. ...

federal-donuts-fried-chicken-dill-glaze

Okay, so Federal Donuts is celebrating National Fried Chicken Day on Sunday, July 6 with a one-day-only offering of “FedNuggets”–FedNuts-style chicken nuggets, made from skin-on chicken thighs, cured and double-fried, served with Coffee BBQ, Honey Mustard and Pineapple Polynesian dipping sauces.
