The Cusco Sandwich at Plenty Cafe

Maybe you’re a freelancer with a few hours between meetings downtown and you want to keep up the productivity. Or there’s construction in your office building and you can’t get anything done with power tools grinding away upstairs. Or you work from home but you’ve reached the point at which you’ll freak out if you don’t leave the house today.

You need a spot to get work done — school, freelance, creative, or just catching up on email. You also need to eat, and as tasty as the croissants and cookies at most coffee ...

Water main break at 7th and Locust Streets | @CBS3Mornings

The overnight water main break at 7th and Locust Streets is affecting Talula’s Daily and Talula’s Garden. Luckily, not because of water damage but because of water access. Talula’s Daily has a barebones menu and only iced coffee since it was brewed yesterday.

Talula’s Garden is awaiting feedback from the Philadelphia Water Department before making a decision on dinner service tonight.

UPDATE: Talula Daily’s “Secret Supper” will be happening as of 7 p.m. tonight. The market will reopen in the morning.

Yesterday’s dinner consisted of an heirloom tomato salad, grilled corn on the cob and some watermelon snagged off a friend’s dish. It was summer in a meal. Much like what is being offered at Talula’s Daily all month. The monthly tasting menu is all about  buttery lobster rolls, sweet corn soup, Lancaster porchetta with homemade beans and other summer barbecue standards.

Talula’s Daily’s August dinner is a prix fixe affair, $55 per person with a beverage pairing available.

Deal, Dunzo: Is the Starr-Olexy Fishtown Deal Dead?

Source: Eater Philly

starrolexy1.jpg

Stephen Starr and Aimee Olexy have called it quits, at least for now, on Frankford Avenue, according to a surprising report from Michael Klein. The backyard-to-table concept was announced around the end of the year with hopes for a spring opening. (It was one of Eater’s most anticipated openings of the year.)

Reasons for the change of plans given to Klein were, unsurprisingly, vague: there are “a number of issues,” according to Olexy, but the only one cited is that the project was behind schedule. She refers to it as “on the shelf,” but Klein also cites “unlikely” ...

Three Bells for Talula’s Daily

Craig LaBan checks out Talula’s Daily and finds that Aimee Olexy has another hit on her hands.

My favorite dish of all my Daily meals, though, was the paper-wrapped surprise of skate en papillote. Almost always seared, the flesh took on an unexpectedly luxurious quality in a tangerine-scented steam, and concealed beneath its butter-glossed wing a trove of root vegetable treasures. Each was cut and cooked to a unique shape and texture, from weird and squiggly little crosnes, to earthy soft Jerusalem artichokes, snappy shaved ribbons of multihued raw carrots, bittersweet marbles of tender baby turnips, ...
