Beer Pick: Second Self Triforce IPA

Inspired by the video game series, Second Self Beer Co. is releasing its new Triforce “slightly hazy” IPA on Saturday with a really geeky party at the brewery’s taproom in West Midtown

The fun and video games include a costume contest and Triforce tacos from Real Mexican Vittles. There’s also a Hyrule-inspired quest around Atlanta for fans of Second Self. Participants can search the city for missing items at participating bars, restaurants and stores to win free merchandise. DISH OF THE WEEK: Bangers and Mash at Ormsby’s

Evans rents the space for events that range from an intimate bridal shower to a ticketed five-course vegan dinner to a 225-person corporate ...

Scofflaw Brewing celebrates its one year anniversary at noon on Saturday. And what a year it’s been.

The brewery that literally started in a basement, and birthed one of Atlanta’s biggest buzz beers, Basement IPA, grew by leaps and bounds in just 12 months.

Along the way, there were triumphs, trials and weird moments that appeared unprecedented for a brewery that seemed to suddenly surface out of nowhere.

I latched on to the story early, and probably wrote more about Scofflaw than many readers or rival breweries might consider cool. But I’m a ...

The end of the peach season is nigh, Atlanta, and it wasn’t the best of years for the state fruit. It’s estimated Georgia farmers lost 80% of their peaches after a warmer than average winter followed by a deep freeze in March killed off the blooms of prematurely flowering trees. This could equal a loss of nearly $50 million dollars when the final numbers are tallied later this summer.

Chefs and bartenders around the metro area have taken the loss to heart and have been buying up ...

What is like to be a colorblind chef?

Source: Atlanta Magazine

Stuffed Zucchini with Georgia chantrelles, arroz verde.Photograph by Wesley Stanfield Photography Chef Benjamin Meyer, of the Westside Barcelona Wine Bar and Restaurant, likes to theme his rotating chef’s specials by color—a yellow pepper bisque and a yellow watermelon salad, or a zucchini stuffed with green rice. The premise sounds a little gimmicky until you learn that for Meyer, these dishes represent a challenge. The chef is colorblind. “A lot of people hear the word ‘colorblind’ and they think you’re walking in a black-and-white world,” he explains. “You see different shadings, but people don’t understand how smart the human mind is. ...
